A chance encounter at the truck stop

I have worked a 12-hour day every day since last Sunday. I’ve been on the road for the last 4 weeks and I finally get to go home today and spend some time with my family. Last night I pulled into the truck stop exhausted and needing fuel.

The truck in front of me had two aftican guys and I had no idea what they were doing but I knew they were taking forever. I start grumbling under my breath about them when suddenly the fuel lane to my left opens up. I back my semi truck up and pull into the next fuel spot and start filling up. As a walk around the truck and look at the yahoo’s next to me I suddenly notice the the large Ethiopian Orthodox cross hanging from inside the cab.

I walked over to the driver and I asked him if he’s Orthodox, he looks at my necklace and my prayer rope and replies “Yes I am, and you are too brother!” I quickly apologized and explained that I had gotten frustrated with them because they were taking longer than expected and that I was reminded when I saw their cross to be patient and kind no matter what. He told me it was no problem, gave me a hug and asked where I was from. He asked how long I’ve been orthodox and how I had found the faith. I told him that I had converted back in 2012 from Roman Catholicism and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. He smiled again told me to drive safe and that he would be praying for me. Was definitely not experience that I was expecting last night but I’m thankful for it.

This unexpected encounter at the truck stop remind me to once again and never judge the person in front of me. You never know who the person is or their situation. And in this case I had no idea they were Orthodox brethren.

I’m finally heading home now and I’m looking forward to spending but the weekend with Emily and John. It’s been a long journey away from home and I am thankful for some upcoming R&R.

Also I need to get myself an orthodox cross that I could have hanging from the inside of my cab.

My next post is going to be a weight loss keto update, it’s been two weeks since I’ve made these changes and I want to find out how I’m doing, so stay tuned for that update!

Until next time my friends, thanks for reading and have a great weekend.
